A Little Bit About Mary and Her Career So Far.....
Mary Duff's phenomenal talent as a singer, together with the great stage presence and charisma she possesses, is testimony of her quietly powerful and captivating persona. There is a genuine warmth about this lady that touches all who come into contact with her, and she enjoys a dedicated, very supportive fan following. Mary is seen in the music business as an accomplished, polished, and highly respected professional performer.
Mary first got the chance to showcase her talent at just 12 years of age when, quite by chance, her father heard her singing on a home tape recorder, and recognised she had quite a talent. Having his own band at that time, he invited Mary to sing with them at weekends.
Once Mary finished school she took up office work in her home county; Meath in Ireland. It was whilst she was working in an office that she auditioned and successfully got the job as vocalist with a band called Jukebox. She then gave up office work and remained with Jukebox for about 3 years.
It was when Mary entered and won the Sunday World Nationwide Talent Competition, in Ireland, that she really made her mark. At that time she met Sean Reilly who was to become her manager. It was soon after that Mary signed to Ritz Records, since which time she has achieved much success with her many albums. She also auditioned for, and was offered, the special guest slot on Daniel O'Donnell's first UK concert tour. Such was the success that today, 23 years later, Mary still remains Daniel's special guest.
As well as the numerous music awards Mary has to her name, in 1990 Mary was named Meath Person Of The Year; a much prized accolade received from her home County.
Mary is married to Paul McKenna, who is now her Manager, and who splits his time between running their own business, Newtown Country Club, and being on the road with Mary for her own concert tours.
Mary completed her first solo tour in the USA in May 2009, the same year also saw Mary fulfill one of her lifelong dreams by recording an inspirational album 'Voice of An Angel' in Prague which was launched at the Holy Family Church in Drogheda on 25th October 2009. Mary was joined by special Guests, Daniel O'Donnell, Father Liam Lawton and Nigel Connell, the Holy Family Church Youth Gospel Choir and St Peters Male Voice Choir.
2010 was as busy as ever with tours in Ireland, UK, America, Switzerland and Australlia both as Daniel's special guest and on her own tours. Her 'Voice of An Angel' Album was officially launched in the UK in October with lots of promotional radio interviews and airplay.
The start of 2011 saw Mary travel to America with The Daniel O'Donnell Show to perform at the Ryman Auditorium 'The Grand Ole Opry' and follow in the footsteps of so many great country artists over many years. The show was recorded for PBS in America. Mary, Daniel and the band also toured others parts of America, Ireland and the UK in 2011.
The rest of 2011 was a very busy year with solo tours in Switzerland, Ireland, UK and Australia. Mary performed at the 'Ultimate Irish Weekend' in Blackpool alongisde Curtis Magee, Jimmy Cricket, John McNicholl and Dominic Kirwan in March. Performed 25 shows in Australia over 29 days which were a great success, we were joined on tour by Straalen McCallum, the youngest artist to be signed to Sony Records in Australia.
